cannes and marseille are 175 km apart (about 100 miles)... you won't be able to do it by foot
and as for what to do in marseille, try this website: http://www.marseille-tourisme.com/servlet/otcm?LANGUE=2&dist=1GP
it will inform you on what you might like to do there. all large cities in france have that kind of website.
