Cricket is a team game. The team triumphs when all click together as a team. As far as confidence is concerned, I do not see something lacking. I would attribute the failure to the coaching style of Greg.
I find some answeres are interested in some other players. But practically the best team is selected. There is always one or two players who could have been picked up like Zaheer Khan and Kumble but in my opinion the experimentation has taken toll on our team. Captinacy is also weak. Captains like Ganguly could instil winning habits in the team.

Players in India team are just puppets, entire team selection is looking by BCCI selectors. As well known Cricket is very popular sport in India. A good revenue and running as high time profit making organisation. Win or loss never matters to the organisation. They have concentrated more on making every answers available for a good team not on winning attitude like Australians.

Whether you win or loss, you get Rs.1.5 lakh for paying a ODI. National pride comes probably last. From having a world beater team 4 years back, India can now beat only Bangladesh and Zimbabwe. They have even lost 5 of last 7 ODIs to WI.

Understand this: Everyone wants to work hard until he finds a job. But once he gets a secured well paid job, he forgets his own prinicples.

Picture this: Irfan Pathan. To get into the team he used to bowl at 130+. But once he became a regular his spped dropped to 120. Then he even dared to make cooments like "I am not an express bowler".

Drop him for some time and he will again bowl at 130+. See how Dinesh Mongia had ttransformed. Some other players like Sehwag should also be given this lesson. We need to kill this comfort feeling of a secured place. Once out of team, it should be hard to make a comeback. Bring back Zaheer and Nehra. They will do wonders.

Since the Team india is making experiments in batting positions as well bowling, no player is certain about his position. This experiment is on one side , making players to get ready to bat at any position, on the other side it is killing the psychology mind of players who are not ready to accept this experiment. Example: Virender Sehwag. Another example: Irfan pathan was given a bright chance to open, to go at no.3, he started failing in bowling.. So, Like this several aspects. The first and foremost is If Team India has to win matches , the following should be copnsidered :
(a) Drop V.Sehwa and bring in another open. His contribution is always once in 5 matches , (b) Similarly Harbhajan too, he performs rare, He sets the field ion the off and pitches the ball on leg side. (c) Over all, The bowlers are not making the opponents play back foot. (d) But our batsmen are trying to play as front foot as possible where the opponents are making our batsmen play back foot. Even on simple required calculations our batsmen are not using their mind to win.

To be honest, in my opinion, India is capable of winning matches, in fact I think they have one of the strongest batting line-ups in world cricket. Lots of depth, even some of the squad players not getting games are talented batsmen.
India's problem lies in it's bowling department. Patel and Singh are decent, but I do not believe India have any truely world class great bowlers. That's the difference between winning and losing against teams like Australia, South Africa, and Pakistan.
Look at the way their bowlers failed against Australia and the West Indies - and that places too much pressure on the batsmen, who then also fail. If India want to be truely competetive at the highest level, they need to invest more in the bowling academy....

I personally feel that they lacks the patroitism. Since they get the money for every match irrespective of winning or loosing, they don't mind whatever is going to happen to the match. They must know the involvement and prestige of the people.I am sure if they ( and the board) don't care automatically the popularity of the game will decline.

Indian cricket team selection is always under politics. For example BCCI decided that they won't telecast matches of karnataka &west bengal. They had given some reasons, but really they are doing politics. The cricket board of karnataka & w.bengal are voted against Sharad pawar, due to whitch tallented players may miss the chance of joining Indian team

Why are people so concerned about the money that cricketers make, do you want them to live of fresh air.The problem is too much experimentation, bad form of top-order batsman, and bad pace bowlers, and we haven't won anything for a while, low confidence.

1.Lack of killer instinct; should not buckle when the going is tough and should not relax or be complacent till the end.
2.Lack of concentration in the field.(unlike Arjuna of Mahabaratha)
