I just bought an old Jaguar xj6. I love it, but it just weighs so much (2 tons) that gettting to 60 MPH takes forever. Is there anything i can do for about 500 dollars to give it a noticable difference in acceleration? noise isnt a problem

An engine is an air pump. The cheapest way to increase power is to get it to breath. Intake, heads, headers exhaust. The only bad part is that Jag performance parts are not cheap and are hard to find.

That is a strong engine, but unfortunately, what you got is what you got. For 500 theres not much you can do, maybe an exhaust, but I am sure that won't get you what you want. I would suggest an engine rebuild or a new engine if possible. Unfortunately, thats going to be more than 500.

Buy a performance custom exhaust. There are obviously not many if any perf-parts for your jag. Best, IMO, is to go to Midas and have them install a custom exhaust. New air filter, plugs, wires, fuel filter may enhance the exhaust, but will not add much standing alone.

Give it a tune-up and don't buy cheap parts....K&N air filter, good 8mm wires or bigger, good plugs e.g. Bosch Platinum +4's, low restriction muffler. Also remember the best way to make a car accellerate quicker is to remove weight from it (and it's free).

for $500?? hehe.. nope.

in the bidness world.. we call someone who wastes your time.. "spinnin yer wheels".. and that's exactly what you'll be doin when you start throwin time & money at a heavy old slow car... it'll just become an expensive heavy old slow car.

save up for a faster car son.. and use that old jag as a trade in.

If you're a tightwad, accounting would be a better venue for you than car customization.
