I'm in labor right now but I don't wanna go to the hospital until my water breaks! I'm having extremely strong contractions 4 -5 minutes apart and they are horrible! What can help me get my water to break? Also, can I tell if I am dilated? Like is there a way for me to check how much I have dilated?

Go to the hospital, it'll probably break on the way! Don't MAKE your water break...nature will work itself out. Just start getting there. How can you tell if you're dilated? You really need to get to the hospital...seriously.

why in the world would you be on the internet and in labor? DO NOT try to break your water on your own. if you aren't in labor and these are Braxton Hicks you'll only cause possible serious infection and an induced labor; which, believe me SUCKS. AND DO NOT TRY TO CHECK YOUR DIALATION...again that will only screw things up. there is reason why there are maternity wards in hospitals, to make you as comfortable as possible and to keep your butt out of harms way. your bag of waters is a cushion for the contractions. if your water breaks, your contractions will intensify big time. Get off of the computer and go to the hospital and let THEM decide how to handle your water, they are the trained professionals there for the good of you and your unborn child.

Please tell me you aren't serious? We can't tell you if your dilated only a doctor can. I highly doubt your having contractions that are 4-5 minutes apart. Your typing on the computer. You aren't in hard labor. you can't break your bag of water. If you do that or find a way to do it. You will harm yourself and the baby. GO TO THE HOSPITAL.

If your contractions are 4 - 5 minutes apart, you better get to the hospital NOW. they'll break your water for you if it doesn't happen naturally. You want your baby to be born in your car or on your living room sofa??

And DO NOT stick your fingers up inside your vagina. There's a slim chance your water could have broken, but your baby is lying low, so you don't notice the fluid coming out. If your hands aren't perfectly clean you could introduce infection to your baby.

Go to the hospital! You can't make your water break. In fact, the doctor had to break mine with all three kids. They'll check you for dilation at the hospital.

why wait for water to break? waht is the point of that? probably no easy way for you to know how far dilated you are.. im telling you , labor can progress VERY quickly after your water breaks and your contractions will become 10 times worse, so you might not want to wait for that.. they do not HAVE to break your water for you, its your right to say no. trust me, if your contractions are that bad already, they will break your water pretty soon.. but you might want to be in the hospital when that happens.

GO TO THE HOSPITAL!!!!
In a lot of cases a women's water doesn't break and the doctor has to break it. You need to go to the hospital right away. You could have complications and need assistance.
They say that when your contractions are 5 minutes apart you need to rush to the hospital.

Unless there is someone with you who is willing to do an internal on you -- and feel around to see if you are technically dilated, then no, you can't find out yourself. As for your water, it'll break when it is ready -- and sometimes it won't break until near the end of labor, when the doc has to break it themselves. Good Luck with labor and congrats !!

First thing first-- Your water might not break on its own. I have 2 children and my doctor had to break my water both times. When I got to the hospital I was 6cm in my first pregnancy. And 10 cm in my second pregnancy. If you wait too long to go to the hospital you may not be able to get pain medicine if you want it. If you are going to check your cervix you make sure you wash your hands and each finger that you can insert into your cervix is one centimenter.

Go to hospital I don't think it's possible to break your own waters. I had 4 babies and the waters were all broken in the hospital
