For everyday riding the supersports are a little extreme- very leaned-over riding position, cramped clip-ons, high rearsets, and a small engine rpm range of useful power. If you are set on a 600cc class machine, look into the "not as race-tuned" versions. For the R6, it's the R6S. The Ninja it's the ZZR600, the Honda it's the CBR600F4i, and for the GSXR it's the Katana 600 or you could even go 750.
But, if you're diehard on a race-ready 600cc class machine, the Ninja ZX-6R is 636cc, the largest of the 4-cyl import bikes, and is very torquey and great on the street and track as well. Plus, I think it looks amazing. You can also look into the Triumph Daytona 675- it has a 675cc DOHC in-line 3 and weights less than any 600cc class bike. Just throwing it out there.

Not diverting you cause your an adult and make your own choices BUT I took the motorcycle safety class on a 250 cruiser and that thing felt like I was flying..I'm a noob though. I have heard the ninja 250 from many true motorcycle riders/vetrans is a great machine and will go about 100 mph and out perform almost any car off the line and it gets 60 mpg and you can get it new for 4200 bucks! And it looks great. What no one told me when I got into biking was how much maintence costs and tires make biking a lot more expensive than what you think. Who are you trying to impress with a 600 supersport? Some idiot who thinks your a pansy because your bike can't go 200 mph? I have seen plenty of info on how ninja 250s can keep up and paas on the highway..BUT if you insist on a 600 I would suggest the yamaha fz6r NOT the r6...good luck!

Ninja 650. Not the fastest, best handling or all that, but all around great bike. Well priced, there isn't a bike in the segment that can do all that -for that money . The Suzuki SV 650 is also worth looking at, and I think much cooler. Ducati also has a new middle-weight Monster this year, but they cost much more than the Jap bikes. -

Don't forget the Honda 600 Hornet.

If you are not looking for speed then why not a Katana? I would stay away from Yamaha I have had a Dirt bike, two 4wheelers, a snowmobile and a few of their motorcycles, and Yamaha SUCKS. I prefer suzuki's the most, and honda's are expensive. I liked my cbr 600 though, But hate the larger Honda's something just isnt right. What i LIke best about Suzuki is the factory installed steering dampener, makes for a much smoother ride. I have only ever ridded a 750 kawasaki, and its not bad, i just dont like the positioning of the handles compared to the gas tank. So, Overall, I would say if you are going 600, go Honda or Suzuki.

If this is your first bike, I'd say none of the above. Any one of the 600 cc sportbikes can be rather unforgiving for a new rider.

If you're moving up from something smaller, and are more interested in everyday practicality than brute speed, I'd recommend considering a Katana, CBR600 F4 (not the RR), SV650S, or Ninja 650. They're more practical and comfortable than all out supersports. Sit on them for yourself and see which one you like the most.

Yamaha R6 is best in class. It's also the best looking bike by far. As for performance, you probably won't notice much difference between these, unless you are on a race track.

I just starting riding in July I purchased a 06 Honda CBR600RR and I love it. I'm handling it very well its not to bulky i drop it and I picked it up. I had looked a several bikes and decided to go with the Honda for reliability and style.

You don't have this listed, but look into it - the 2006 R6S - very good all around. The GSXR is also an awesome all around bike. Avoid the CBR.

that one's easy son... CBR600RR..
most balanced.. best handling.. and if nothing else.. Most reliable engine, and smoothest shifting tranny.. those 2 alone are worth the price of admission.
Get a good helmet.. not one 'o them $100 cheapies.. and ride safe son.
