20 more children than puppies. In the corner of the room, the teacher had
an ant's nest. In the nest were exactly 10 times more ants than children.

first,we let x= no. of children
so puppies=x-20
ants=10x
children have 2 legs=2x
puppies have 4 legs=4(x-20)
ants have 6 legs=60x
teacher has 2 legs=2
so 2x+4(x-20)+60x+2=1440
x=23
so there are 23 children

anyway the question should say 10 times AS MUCH ants as children and not 10 times MORE than children

Children have two legs
Puppies have 4 legs
Ants have 6 legs

So 6*Ants + 4*Puppies +2*Children + 2*T= 1440
A = 10C
C = P+20
T = 1
So A = 10(P+20)

6*(10(P+20)) + 4*P + 2(P+20) + 2T = 1440

60P+ 1200 +4P +2P +40 +2 = 1440

66P +1242 = 1440

66P = 198

P = 3
3 Puppies, 23 children, 1 teacher, 230 ants
3 *4 + 23*2 + 2 + 1380

12+ 46 + 2 + 1380 = 1440

There are 3 puppies in the room, 23 children, 230 ants.
The legs part works out to be 2 (teacher) + 46 (children) + 12 (puppies) + 1380 (ants) = 1440!

Good luck!
