The use of preposition "by" and "at" is confusing in the following case.

This event will take place by the pool side or
This event will take place at the pool side

Which one is correct, kindly give explanation as well

by the pool side unless you are referring to the name of a place then it would be at the pool side

It should be "by the poolside" because you are along the side of the pool. See the link below

For example:--
Nothing like a refreshing cola by the poolside...

at pool side.
you are already saying pool SIDE which is explaining you are near the pool. by the pool side means you are some where near the area near the pool. it just doesn't make sense.

by the poolside, you are by the side of the pool. Once you get there, you are at the pool side.

I think it should be 'poolside'. In this particular case neither preposition is needed.
