Depends on the limits of the game. There is no limit to the highest bet. Just depends on who is playing and how much they are gambling with. I guess the correct answer would be "All In"

Poker has many options, As The other answer states, No Limit Poker is just that, No Limits, Most poker in Casinos have limits. $20--$40 for Big and small blinds, After 4th card, The bets double. So the bet off the first player has to be $40, The others must match the $40 or Raise to keep playing the hand., after 4th card, The bet must be $80 to keep playing. A person can still go All-In on a Limit game, And only if it is not more than double the bet at the time. All this makes sense to me, Not sure its understandable typing it

There are three types of poker. Fixed Limit, Pot Limit and No Limit.
Fixed Limit means you can bet only a fixed amount at any time. Bets or raises must be this amount. Example: $20-40, you can bet or raise $20 preflop or on the flop. $40 bets or raises on turn or river. No exceptions. Most games have a 'cap' of four bets per betting round, so $80 preflop and flop per player and $160 turn and river per player in a $20-40 game.
Pot Limit lets you bet the size of the pot AFTER you have called a bet or raise. Example: there's $10 in the pot. Player A bets $10. Player B calls the $10 and can raise another $30 (the original $10 + the $10 from Player A plus the CURRENT size of the pot, which is $30). Player A could then call the $30 then raise $90 (the original $30 plus the raise from Player B). This continues until one person is 'all-in', or all his chips are in the pot. Nobody can bet their house, car keys or deeds to a bar (except in movies).
No Limit means you can bet any amount at any time, but there are still SOME rules. For example, you have to bet at least the minimum (so in a $1-2 game, $1). You cannot 'underraise'. So if the last bet was $25, you must raise at least another $25. The maximum is "all-in", your entire stack. Again, no car keys, no IOUs, no house deeds, no dipping into your wallet for more funds. What's on the table ONLY is in play.

In limit poker, there is a stated limit.
Commonly, there is a maximum that applies to each bet or each raise, AND there is a limit on the NUMBER of raises in each round of betting (usually 3 raises).
In table stakes, the maximum bet is the amount that the bettor has at the table (which usually must be ON the table, so that other players can see how much he has available to bet). Poker on TV is basically table stakes, with the additional limitation that the player is not allowed to buy more chips, which he WOULD be able to do in an ordinary game of table stakes.
And then there is NO LIMIT, which is just what it says.

It depends on how mu ch you have. There is no limit on what you can bet. Casinos and such wouldn't make any money if there was.
