I found out late friday afternoon that my Father has six blockages in his heart and one of which is 99% blocked. He is going to have open heart surgery tomorrow morning that will include up to 6 bypasses( 09/25/2006). I come to my supervisor trembling and in tears after hearing the news and advise her that I will need Monday and Tuesday off but the leave calender is full. I am told by a shaking of the head that no exception will be made and if I call in to attend his surgery that the days will be held against my dependability which will put me on warning and if another day is missed unapproved I may be terminated. I am shown no compassion and I am made to get back on the phone to service policyholders ( Isuranance Agent, I work in a call center) I can barely get through the call and that same supervisor decided to monitor me on the call and critize me for not doing my closing correctly. I am told I must finiah my shift which had an hour left in it because of calls on hold.

your dad is WAAAAAYYY more important than some stupid call center job.

i'd just call in and if they fire you, you might be able to get unemployment,

THere treating you like crap!!!!

Even if thye do not fire you i would look for another job right away, They could care less about you,

When you have an interview with a different job, just be straight up with them and tell them that they would not you were let go becuase of your fathers "very" serious health condition

No, you should not quit.

Just call in Mon and Tues and give your reason being your father. Then try your best not to miss any more days. If you have to miss another for your father, then you have to. Your father is more important. Let them fire you and then get unemployment. If you quit, you will not get unemployment. The department of labor will also help you get another job and probably a better one where you are treated like an asset to the company, not just like a slave.

If you continue to be monitored on your calls, just do the best you can. You cannot be expected to do any better than that, right? If you were not good enough for the job, you would not have been hired in the first place or kept on this job.

You are also not allowed to be singled out and harrassed and if it seems to continue, you should go to the labor board with that. If your calls are the only ones being monitored, and you are consistently being bombarded with your boss complaining, that is being singled out. They are not allowed to do that.

I would definitely be at the hospital with my Daddy. I would not quit. I would call in and tell where I was going. I would bring a letter to my job stating where will be and date it. If they said I was fired I would ignore what ever was said and tell them that when I find out more about my Daddy I will be back at work. When I came back to work at the regular scheduled time if I didn't I have a job I would consult an attorney if they said it was about missing days of work. In the meantime I would look for another job or do what my attorney advised me. There may not be anything you can do to keep your job. If you look at it this way you will feel a lot better. You cannot replace your Daddy but you can replace your job.

First, look for another avenue.

First, can you get a co-worker to trade.

Second, see if there is someone else you can go to. First try HR is there is one, otherwise go the next step up the ladder. The target is not to get approval (since there is no time) but to get the warning removed.

if not, let your supervisor know you will be gone those days (leave a message), and if thy put you on notice, keep the job while you look for another job. You might be able to transfer within the company under a different supervisor.

You need to contact your HR department to inform them of the situation and if they are no help; I would contact my State Employment office and report this violation. I would also get me a lawyer, even if you have no leave left - you still should be able to take days off but of course they wouldn't be paid leave. Do you have any sick time, if so, I would call in sick.

My opinion: I would not tolerate working for employers like this; your type of work is abundant so I would look to getting another job. You're an employee; not a slave.

Instead of communicating your concerns with your supervisor, which you have already tried, I would take it directly to a representative in your Human Resources department. Your supervisor may not have the right to force you to stay, or to threaten you.

If you are unable to seek results, I would request (through HR) a leave of absence for FMLA (Family & Medical Leave Act). Under most circumstances, your company is legally required to allow you this leave, without consequence.

If you have concerns that aren't resolved by HR, I would certainly contact an attorney to see if you have a case.

I know it might be very tempting to just quit, but it might be a good idea to check that you can afford to quit. Im not sure what financial responsibilities you have, but I would think if you have nothing major then just quit. If you have a morgage or bills to pay it might be better to try and get another job else where first, even though this does not help you in the short term.
This boss of yours sounds like a real ***** though.
Good luck with whatever you decide

No do not quit. You shouldn't quit because in the worst case scenario you'll want to get unemployment insurance and if you quit you may not get it.

If you really hate your boss than go above her. Also, you can talk to HR...that is what they are there for and get your complaint in writing.

Quitting is just what your boss would like you to do...don't give her the satisfaction.

If you need the time off then take the time off. If you are fired...your reason for being fired will not hurt you with new employers.

Don't quit. Its call emergency family medical leave act or something close to that. He has to let you off and let you return with no retibutions. If they do fire you call a lawyer and own the company. They know the laws and will not fire you. You must get notes from Hospital saying you were there and which days you were there.

Your father's surgery is more important than any job.You can always find another job,you can't find another dad,if anything was to happen.I would take off anyway and whatever happens with your job,oh well find another. It sounds like you're job is on the line anyway, let them bastards fire you.If they do then get unemployment checks.Find another job,go to your dad's surgery.Be there for him,if you missed his surgery and something happened, you wouldn't be able to live with yourself, the company you work for wouldn't show any graditude if something did happen,be with your father,he'd be there for you.
