it is just a king of white blood cells, can be mildly low without a problem and in some other problems can be very low. If a doctor ordered a white cell count, ask him/her to explain with reference of why was this test ordered, good luck

Low Lymphocyte
A lymphocyte is a type of white blood cell involved in the human body's immune system. There are two broad categories of lymphocytes, namely the large granular lymphocytes and the small lymphocytes. The large granular lymphocytes are more commonly known as the natural killer cells (NK cells). The small lymphocytes are the T cells and B cells. Lymphocytes play an important and integral part of the body's defenses.
A lymphocyte count is part of a peripheral complete blood cell count and is expressed as percentage of lymphocytes to total white blood cells counted. An increase in lymphocytes is usually a sign of a viral infection (in some rare cases, leukemias are found through an abnormally raised lymphocyte count in an otherwise normal person). A general increase in the number of lymphocytes is known as lymphocytosis.
Whereas a decrease is Lymphocytopenia. Lymphocytopenia refers to a lower than normal level of lymphocytes. This can cause several diseases including :-
Corticosteroids
HIV
Hodgkin's disease
Malnutrition
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus leukemia
Forms of Cancer
Autoimmune diseases/disorders
Anemia,
Lymphomas
other Viral Infections

leukemia
hiv
other viral infections
forms of cancer
lymphomas(?)
forms of autoimmune diseases/disorders
lupus
anemia
prescription drugs can cause this
the list is endless...
your best bet would be to discuss it with the doc...
also, if you have high neutrophils, it's cause to worry, as well as all around lowered blood cell count (all red and white)....both indicate leukemia...
there's also a pre-leukemic condition that causes the WBC to drop every 28 days or so, and if found during a drop, would appear to be unhealthy...but is just a bad sign...it's not indicating anything at present in this scenario...just...the body tends to be weird, so for some people, the cycle may just never pick back up again, which is why it's pre-leukemic.
Also...if you are able to get the doctors to find out if the cells that are being produced are fully mature, that would be helpful as well.
^_^ goodluck!

Low lymphocytes indicates that you are not producing a normal amount of effective disease and infectious fighting cells in your bone marrow. So you are immmunodeupressed. Could be caused by anemia, could be cuse by HIV or lymphoma (cancer). Taking steroids can do this too.
