i know that a lot of people think that elvis stole from black music but he also introduced it to a wider audience and was instrumental in getting black music into the mainstream- but i never hear black people talk too kindly of him-why is this?

i have no clue personally. I'm guessing its a personal choice depending on how "blacks" view themselves and him. But i just want to say this isn't a prejudice question, its just an observation and wanting to know how true or false that observation is. Being prejudice would be asking "Why do black people despise..." because it would make the assumtion that they do despise him. This question was phrased in such a way that they want to inform themselves about whether this is true or not. how else would they ask it?

I like Elvis in the movies but...I think chuck berry, little richard & Motown records were instrumental in getting r&b into the main stream. Record companies back then would steal african american artists songs and give white people the music, credit and future royalties. So elvis is not the only artist just the most obvious because he also stole his dance moves from african american artist as well. It kind of reminds me of milli vanilli remember them? they got sued for lip syncing a whole album of some other guys singing ??

I actually like Elvis Presley. The fact that he embraced black music in an era of racism speaks a lot for his character.

I'm white and I can't stand elvis Presley's music. I can't stand any old music. I do despise people who ask racist questions. You really need to stop generalizing cause I'm sure there are "Black" people who do like him and his music.

I'm black and I don't despise him. I just think he has more white fans than black fans.

Why do you make general statements when you probably do not know a black person? Except for performers on TV.
