Some people need TV because there so busy and don't have a lot of friends its there only seeming communication with the outside world. Myself I don't own or watch TV because It doesn't make happy anymore I just play guitar with my free time. I guess what I'm getting at is that TV is only meant to make you happy, If it does keep watching it If it doesn't than don't watch it simple as that.

TV has a place, start with educational, but if it were to disappear today, I would not miss it. It has driven a wedge between my wife and I that will never be resolved. If you cannot limit yourself then you are an addict just like anyone else. I am a recovering alcoholic, I had to draw the line (15+) years ago, but when a program becomes the focus of something to the exclusion of all else, well you take it from there

Yes and no...although I don't know why this is in the "Government" section...
yes, television has slid culturally downwards for a long time. Commercials, reality shows, game shows...they all play on the idiocy of humanity.
The news media is a large outlet of people paid to give their biased opinion on factual events.
But, truth be told, we have evolved from plays, concerts, and the like, and now our medium is the television, where anything is possible. Television is supposed to be for entertainment, although good quality shows can still be found. It takes someone with common sense, judgement, and good character to decide what is best for them.

Not so much of NOT watching TV, but rather WHAT you watch on TV. If the television only showed shows like "All in the family", "Andy Griffith", etc. like all the shows they showed when I was growing up, "Bonanza" and other shows like that, we would more than likely be a better group of people than what we are today.

Do you think that people would be better off without putting themselves in front of several thousand clever and sometimes subliminal messages telling them to do things that are bad for them, for their family, for their neighbors, and for the rest of the planet?

Yeah for sure. Not so much tv anyway. It takes people away from spending time with family i think.
All news (mostly) is just plain bad these days.

Why do you hate to be entertained and informed
End freedom of speech and thought
Next you'll want to rid the world of video games

I like BBC News, unfortunately I can't get it anymore. I can't give up scary shows (like the Twilight Zone) or cartoons. But reality T.V., soaps, game shows, and all that crap, yeah. We would be better off without it.
