How about a nice vase with fresh flowers and a gift certificate for a florist to keep it filled for a month. Or a nice guest signing book for customers to sign. In about a month, book a large party with everyone you know to get restaurant going and staying busy. What type of restaurant is it? The best gift is advertising, if the food and service are really good, nothing beats word of mouth.

Either a really nice flower arrangement or potted plant. You might want to go with the plant if you want something that will be a part of the resaturant for a long time.
