i would pick just one dr to follow your child's care-too many providers could actually be bad for your baby's well-being b/c they each have their own way of practicing medicine. some doctors have preferences on which medications they like to use so that may be the reason you got different medications.

it really depends on the age of your little one but for small babies (6months and up) pedia care infant drops work best

6-11 months give 0.8 ml (1 dropper full)
12-23 months 1.2ml (1 1/2 droppers)
2-3 years 1.6ml (2 droppers)
give every 4-6 hours but no more than 4 doses in 24 hours

also use saline spray (ocean water) during the day to help keep the nasal passages moist. at night, use a warm mist humidifier (not cold mist)-this will help keep the nasal passages and chest cavity moist and free of congestion. it takes several days of non-use and not changing the water before mold develops so clean it out about every 48 hours.

you can also run hot water through your shower for several minutes with the door closed to develop steam inside the bathroom. after about 15 minutes-you and the baby sit in the bathroom (on the tiolet seat or the floor next to the shower works best) for about 20 minutes to help clear out the congestion.

don't use vapor rub on children under the age of 2. there respiratory systems are too small to handle the potent medication in vick's and it can interfere with their breathing. this also goes for any type of room deodorizer, sanitizer,or spray. things like Lysol can effect your baby's breathing which is already compromised due to the congestion from the cold. you can wipe down door handles and hard toys with lysol wipes if you wish but only after your baby is done playing with them

you can use johnson's soothing vapor bath when bathing your baby-it will help soothe the congestion.

make sure your little one gets plenty of fluids. if he/she is eating solids-don't worry too much about them not wanting to eat-most people don't feel like eating when sick. pedialyte works great for restoring fluids and maintaining the electrolyte balance in the body. you can try giving that to your baby is he/she won't take formula.

good luck and i hope your baby feels better

PediaCare is one of the best. Infants Tylenol for colds & coughs works too. Common colds do NOT need an antibiotic UNLESS it is accompanied by a chest infection, upper respitory infection or sinus infection and/or a mild to severe cough.

Colds need to run their courses, about 7-10 days. Some colds linger for about 14-17, which is perfectly fine. If you're worried about dehydration, Pedialyte is good to give the infant to drink. Most infants, toddlers, children & adults will sleep more when sick. This is fine & allows their bodies to rest while the cold runs its course. They may not want to eat much either. Pediasure is ok if the child is over 12 months old. Ask your pediatrician under that age before using it.

Wash bedding in warm or hot water, changing it every time you get your child up from a nap & in the morning. Spray the mattress lightly with Lysol, as well as the whole room, even spray the handle of the door. Let dry before replacing bedding. This will help prevent the cold germs from spreading. Use Vicks VapoRub for infants on their chest to help them breathe better. Give the child a bath in Johnson's Vapor Bath (it's a light green bottle). Humidifiers are ok, but can breed mold, even when the machine's cleaned daily. You can also use the Sudafed VapoPlugs for children. More effective & you remove the insert in the morning, using a new one that night.

Don't ever give your dog human medicine unless under the direct supervision and advise of your vet. A lot of human medicine can kill your dog. Remember, this is an animal not a child, you can't give them medications made for people. Take the dog to the vet and get proper medication for her and have her treated by a professional. She should be going to the vet anyway if you just got her for a health check up.

You have three pediatricians? Just pick one and go with what he/she says. Too many cooks spoil the meal
