I don't know who sings it for the commercial, but it sucks. I like the original better. Why do they have to screw with good music? It doesn't need it. And the commercials that have that Johnny Cash song on it, is horrid too. Can't they just leave the good music alone?

The song was recorded especially for the commercial and wasn't released by any band or known artist. Probably a group of backup singers and such who never get their name out there ...

i prefer steppenwolf's version anyway. :) the original is almost always the best

EDIT:

from what i've seen, there have been a few bands who covered it ... if you want to hear different versions, try downloading ones by led zepplin, eminem, or bedlam

It was orginally sung by Stephenwolf. Awesome song, the original not the one on the commercial.
