If everything else works then only the liquid crystal display is
broken. This is a good thing. Usually, on most modern phones, you
can remove the top cover so that you can change the cover - unless it is a flip phone, you dont state which one...
If it is a single piece phone, try to look up the manual to see how to change the face plate.
If you can remove the face plate, then you can carefully look to see how much damage is done to the display. It is usually glass, and held
by a top and bottom plastic rail, with LED lights on the bottom or
sides.
Just look to see if the glass has been cracked or is pushed in.
If there is a metal cover frame around the glass, ( usually held in place with screws ), look to see if the thin metal is bent or pushed in. This type would be difficult to take apart or see.
Since this is a new phone, there may be something the dealer can do to help you depending on how long you have had it - 30 days, 60 days, 90 days... Since the phone otherwise works, only the screen module would have to be replaced, and only the dealer would normally have the contacts to order the exact unit quickly - and hopefully under a warranty of some sort. Get to the dealer as quickly as possible to ask what they can do. There are a FEW rare sellphone repair shops that deal in " any " cell phone, but they are difficult to find - check in the phonebook yellow pages under cellphones, and since you are on the web, you can look for the MAKE of the cellphone ( panasonic, Nokia, Motorola etc ) and go to the website, and under the SUPPORT, put in the info - the serial number etc, and see what warranties and parts are available, and, then, you can check the website at verison SUPPORT, and see what help they have ....
Cell phones are now ( unfortunatley ) disposable, so the second that they are out of the " new " warranty (s) they are usually not worth trying to fix. You may, if all else fails, be able to get an "upgrade" or replacement phone at a low price - Verison will try to do anything to help keep you as a customer - they offer, as most Cell Providers do - incentives to upgrade or replace units to newer ones on a regular basis, and if you ask at the dealer, there may be some sort of special offer that they can give you.
Finally, if the phone is out of warranty, Verizon wont help, the manufacturer wont help, and you cant get a cell phone shop to help, then you can go to a dollar store and get a small set of tiny star and slot screwdrivers. If the phone is not going to be looked at by any professional, you have nothing to loose by carefully taking apart the frame around the display, to see if there is a loose, bent, or disconnected part, and seeing if by moving parts or connecting parts, you can get the unit working.
I work with electronics, so I have a good idea of what to look for, and I can't give you years of knowledge in a text message, so you just have to do your best - as I said, you would have nothing to loose if no one will help you ...
as you take out the tiny screws, have some sheets of white paper ready, and tape each screw on the paper with scotch tape.
Mark a diagram picture under the parts where they go back.
The parts are very tiny, and often LOOK the same, but are slightly different, so you do not want to mix them up.
Mark the parts with a number 1, 2, 3, in the order that you
remove them, so that when you put them back you go backwards
3, 2, 1 etc. and everything will fit.
If you cant fix it, oh well, at least you tried. - You cant learn anything if you dont at least try. If you are lucky you might connect something, move something or jiggle something and get it working... !
Good luck

i had the same problem before... just try pressing the screen really hard... :) it think it's not yet broken. :) you can use it still...
it would look really funny though but try putting rubber band on it... :)
if you can't live with it (since, i swear, it'd look funny), try asking your cellphone manufacturer to fix it... there are a lot of cellphone manufacturers who provide services like this.. less costly and sometimes it's free! :)
