Do you know the person that was holding the garage sale? HMM...I would say spray it heavily with Lysol (hell use the whole can) and then cover it with a mattress pad and pray the bed bugs dont get you.

If it is not dirty then I would clean it with a good steam cleaner. If you don't have one you can probably rent one at a rental place. Steam will kill all the bugs, germs, viruses and bacteria. If you are still in doubt buy a hospital grade disinfectant and spray that on both sides. Leave in direct sunlight for the day to dry and then cover with a padded rubber mattress pad. There shouldn't be anything to worry about after that. The steam cleaning will kill everything. Enjoy your new bed.

I'm not sure a whole can is necessary. But I would vacuum it well, and give it a light spray with a disinfectant. If you are really nervous, maybe one of those water-proof covers.

whipe it down with bleach, and put a plastic mattress pad over it. better yet, go to sears and get a padded fitted sheet, it extra comfy and toss it on top clear away from the bug the bed may carry.( but, all bed do, we cannot see them). However, you should be ok with bleach/lysol.
