It is a separate state from UK and existed as another sovereign nation.

Irish independence was hard fought and there are no pressing reasons why we would ever cede power to the UK again.

The UK has it's own national agenda and this has not always been in the national interests of the Irish. At times in history, UK policy was particularly harsh towards the majority of Irish people, and this is the principal reason why there is no stomach whatsoever to rejoin the UK.

It's nice to have our own government..

Coz one's Roman Catholic while the other's Church of England....can't ever see eye to eye in religion, let alone anything else.
