Ogg "Ooooo! Whats this thing with paws, and long sharp te... Ahhhrrggg my arm!"
Bog "Note to self... things with paws, and long sharp teeth... Bad!"
Bog "I wonder what these plants are... Hmmm. Three leafs... neat white berries." ... Four hours later "Damn I am itchy..."

The object of learning because I think it has to pique (create an interest) in your curiosity in order to want to learn.

Curiosity is the innate drive that causes the brain to evolve and grow. It is the physiological impulse to fulfill a never ending desire to understand our environment. Outside forces may encourage, or repress this natural desire. Poetically speaking; the flower will thrive in the light of knowledge, but die in the darkness of ignorance.

one of two things--either fear or curiosity
curiosity is obvious
fear is:
necessary to keep job
necessary to keep from flunking
to protect oneself
fear of failure
fear of injury
well, just fear, as you can imagine. The list can be endless
