I've never been in an actual debate, but I would imagine it would be very important to learn both sides of the issue.

Best way to win a debate is to prepare to defend both sides of the debate. Be knowledgeable on the issues. Know some obscure facts of the issue being debated so you can pose questions on them... If you can debate from either side your prepared to hear their answers and will know how to "trip" them up.

Even if you do not trip them up being prepared for the x on you is just as important. answer their questions while making preplaned points of your own.

think as the opposing side,

spent some time pretenting you are the opposing side, and look for any disadvantage on your side and start building cases and argument.

For anything that being targeted during the debate, first you need to justify there are *confusing point of his/her argument*, any argument (non-fact) has confusing point because If its fact, then that is no point of argue.

Well, its about experience and preparation. Good luck, and have fun.

U need to first keep track of ur own points and never falter. Doubly check the points before hand & note that the points aren't opposing each other . use simple language and tech-savy words to lure the audience. U could fire down ur opponent with stinging humorous words. All the best!

Easy. Watch Tim Russert, moderator of Meet the Press, on Sunday morning television. All his questions are in the "GOT-cha" mode, to humiliate the guest.

When preparing, argue their side, then build your argument against what they will say, if you are first, you cut them off before they get started, if your second you destroy them in a mocking way. For example, "Some may say.....,but in reality that is not the case as I show here." This worked for me for years.
