I may still be in High School, but I'm planning to get married after I serve in the Navy and finish school. I want a non-religious wedding because I am agnostic. My girlfriend (the one I hope to propose to) is in the same boat. Hell.... we both want to get married wearing stuff from HOT TOPIC! anyways, if there is such thing as an un-religious wedding... who should I have do the ceremony?

Try a Metaphysical or New Age Church. They are typically accepting of all belief systems even non-belief. Some times you will find that at a Unitarian/Universalist. The Pagans will usually work with you also.

You can do the Justice of the Peace thing but that is not a wedding, that is just a step to fulfill the legal requirement and usually done in a courthouse. You just need an ordained minister to perform the ceremony. Visit your local head shop and find out who's who in your city.

Navy Chaplains are also suppose to be ecumenical but tend to lean toward Christian. I wanted to get married by a Rastafarian minister in Jamaica but it never happened. :-(

Good luck!

Uhm religious weddings are all over the place honey. Hell, you can get ordained over the internet in 15 minutes. If I had the time, I could marry you. Ever hear of Vegas? Non-religious ceremonies happening there all the time...they even have drive through service!

If you want to wear clothes from "Hot Topic", I wouldn't suggest a beach ceremony...sand and leather punk wear do not mix. Get a justice of the peace and go to a place that you and your future spouse will remember for the rest of your lives!

Wish ya luck and congrats!

Of course there is - lots of people get married with a judge or a justice of the peace and you don't have to have a church and a minister and all that.

You can even have a friend get ordained (easy on-line) and licensed (check local requirements) and perform the ceremony for you. A friend just had that done for his wedding!

And Hot Topic has some GREAT things to get married in (I'm partial to their corsets and their long velvet capes!).

Yes, you can get married without a religious ceremony anywhere in the world. How, does vary depending on what country you are in. Some countries have a Registry for Births Marriages and Deaths. Others, you would contact your local courthouse or town hall.

It is called a civil ceremony, and is performed by a Judge. You can also get married by a Justice of the Peace. I was married by a Captain on the Queen Mary in Long Beach, CA; that is another option (tho' he belonged to a church I never had heard of).

Good luck.

I got married at a hemp fest in Texas, the minister was very unconventional, we met him at a local concert. I wore a black skirt and a Sisters of Mercy t shirt that read "F**K me and marry me young (I was 20) and he wore black jeans and a Cramps t shirt. A wedding should be your day, no one else's. Both sets of parents were annoyed, but in the end I know mine enjoyed saving the money. Do whatever you like.

My wedding was non-religious... we just went to the court house.. but you can have whoever marries you use the same "lawfull vows" and not the religious ones. My hubby is a Marine by the way... fyi.

You can have whatever you want , just hire a justice of the peace to perform the ceremony. They can be found at your county courthouse.
You can even give him the words you want to use.

Your local courthouse. Or the courts in the county where you want to get married anyways. Just see the clerk of court.
