given fake money that they use to go to the bath room and they can use to get out of doing their late home work? what is the point of it? should i take to my brothers school about this? any advice will help because it keeps getting harder and harder to help this kid with his home work when it seems as if his school is being counter productive.

i admit that i am a bad big brother but this kid need to get a good education and be better than his big brother. hell i hated my school but at east i learned some thing, and i really fear itis hurting more than helping.

he goes to a mid size school and at his age i went to a small school if that makes any differnce.

How many times do they get this reward? Is it a valid reason for getting the reward?

I allow my students 2 bathroom/late passes a semester. They have coupons. It does not look like fake money, but it is the same concept.

I also give homework passes, but no more than 1 each grading period. I think that sometimes if a kid has entirely too much work to do a homework pass can help them. Most of the time the kids do not even use them.

If your brother is getting homework passes even once a week I think that this is too much. As for bathroom passes, this is also not necessary more than once or twice a semester. If it is more often than this then I think I would talk to the teacher just to get more information about it.

By all means, go talk to the school to find out more about what is going on, but don't go in with a chip on your shoulder. Be willing to listen . There may be a good reason for what they are doing. There is a method I have sometimes used called token economy. When I was working with "challenging" students, I tried to reward them with a ticket when I caught them doing what they were supposed to be doing, such as turning in homework on time, participating well in class, helping another student etc. They could trade the tickets for play money and buy something in the classroom store once every two weeks. I never used it for restroom breaks or to get out of homework. We used it for things like school supplies and nutritious food so kids were earning items, not accepting charity. It was used as a motivational tool. Believe me I would rather reward good behavior than waste my time on poor behavior. If this type of program is not well run and consistent, it will not work well for the kids.
Of course, your brother's school may be doing something totally different. You won't know until you ask. I think it's great that you are taking interest in your little brother's education. It sounds like you want the kid to learn.

In another category this same message was posted from an older sister....my advice is the same, get over it.

The fake money is a very popular behavior control method used by most school systems these days.

The school is using tried and true methods to teach these kids.

WOW!!! I had to read your question 3 times. Are you serious...Is this in Canada!!! I thought my son's school had odd practices. There are times when I have to question the teachers about their rational for doing what they do. My son's teacher last year gave fake money to her class for doing good work and using proper manners. My son and his classmates got to use their money at an auction held in their class. There was never anything there that he wanted. So, my son saved his money for this basket ball Jersey that was to be auction off at the end of the school year. He did not get the Jersey because there was only one and the teacher gave it to someone else....So, at the end of the school year my son ended up with a lot of fake money. lol, Now tell me what kind of positive reinforcement are we truly looking at here.
I don't know what to tell you! I just don't see the logic with what your brother's teacher is practicing. You may want to speak with your brother's teacher and if not satisfied speak with the principal or another teacher for clarification and the rational.
Good Luck! Know that you are not alone...And, Good for you looking after your brother's best interest.

No but I guess they have discipline problems. I guess it's like not assigning homework for those who get the money. Maybe they get the money for paying attention in class and understanding sufficiently well? You could ask about it but the school has difficulties that you don't experience.

Seems like a poor way to show children that money makes the world go 'round.

If it bothers you enough to ask it here, yes talk to the School.
