I started giving my child vitamins when he was 1 to help prevent him from becoming anemic since he liked to drink a lot of milk, & I've continued to do so ever since. I think it's good for a child to take a vitamin, just be sure not to overdose them, read the directions/ask your pediatrician what is the right amount to give your child. At 1 I gave my child a liquid vitamin meant for babies, I just put it in the milk. When he got a yr or two older I would buy childrens chewable vitamins & cut it in 1/2 (he got a 1/2 a vitamin per day).

There are vitamins and other suppliment for babies 0 -12mths old. These can be purchased over the counter at any or most pharmacies. However, check with your pediatrician before administiring any suppliments. While the breast milk does provides most things, there are still a few things it cannot do. Also if your baby is bottle formula fed, then there is a greater need for the suppliment...
Again see the baby's doctor. Good Luck!!!

i always try to get vitamins for my kids, but they're pretty good eaters, and they eat a pretty balanced diet, so i don't really worry about the vitamins...they're not needed if the child has a healthy diet...
and there are vitamins for babies, they come with a dropper and you can put the vitamins right in baby's bottle or cereal or whatever...but they're nasty, so don't torture baby by just giving those vitamins straight lol
if you're that concerned, make an appointment with the pediatrician, and he'll help you out.

The first pediatrician that we saw with my son said to start the liquid vitamins during week one, but then we switched docs and the new one said there was no reason for vitamins yet. At my sons 1 yr appointment, the doc said it was up to us if we wanted to start vitamins then, but didn't say we had to. My son is now 2 yrs old and does not eat as well rounded as he did before he was able to tell me NO, so now he takes vitamins daily.

Most pediatrician's start babies on fluid multi-vitamins at the age of six months. If there is not flouride in the water in your area, they may put that in the multi-vitamin too. At the age of one-two, the switch to a chewable tablet. You give these once a day.

I just got my 2 year old some flinstone vitamins for 2 & 3 year olds. She'll only take it if I tell her its candy! When she was around 6 months old the doctor subscribed a liquid vitamin w/ some flouride in it, but that stuff was nasty and she would hardly take any of it. If you don't do vitamins, just make sure your child is eating healthy. Good luck!

We started giving him polyvisol when he was born, because he was breastfed. When we switched to formula we were told the formula had enough vitamins in it. Then when he turned one year he started on whole milk. Well they said his iron was low and put him on polyvisol with added iron. He hates the taste so I asked the ped about it and he said vitamins aren't supposed to taste good. Well I switched him to flintstones with iron anyway. There was no use in torturing him. He takes a whole flintstone vitamin and he is fine.

I started at age 3.
I bought some and brought the bottle to the Dr when they went for their physical.. he said that it was great to start them on vitamins.
I also have premature twins and they have been really sick so it is very important for me to keep them as healthy as possible.
