It really depends on the type of makeup. Mascara, cream blush or eye shadow, lipstick, and foundation are usually good for 3-6 months. Blush and eye shadow (powder)are good for about a year. The best indicator is to look at the makeup itself. And clumping or funny odor would indicate that it's gone bad. Sometimes you can stretch the length if you keep the makeup in a cool place.

You may not be able to use eye make-up, such as mascara, eyeliner, and eye shadow for as long as other products. This is because of the risk of eye infection. Some experts recommend replacing mascara three months after purchase. If mascara becomes dry, throw it away. Don't add water or, even worse, saliva to moisten it. That will bring bacteria into the product.

You may also need to watch certain "all natural" products that contain substances taken from plants. These products may be more at risk for bacteria. Since these products contain no preservatives or have non-traditional ones, your risk of infection may be greater.

If you don't store these products as directed, they may expire before the expiration date. For example, cosmetics stored in high heat may go bad faster than the expiration date. On the other hand, products stored the way they should be can be safely used until they expire.

It depends on the product. For example, toss masacara after 3 months, while foundation can last over a year. Check out the link below for totals.

I was told, BY TYRA, on the tyra show, generally most stuff 3-6 months, like mascara, lip gloss. I think blush and eyeshadow can go a little longer. But basically every 3-6 months.

Every 6 months you should throw away all of your cosmetics and skin care products. You wouldn't believe what is growing in them.

You should only keep mascara for 3 months. It accumulates bacteria. You should never share your mascara with anyone either.
Others, I guess you just have to use your own judgement.
