I have a DVD of a play that I was in and I would like to make my friend a copy of it. I have a macosx with imovie, quick time player, and idvd. I need to know how do I make a copy of it using these programs. Also, it needs to be good quality please tell me if you know anything!!!

Look for a program called Handbrake and if you need a second program try mactheripper

Sounds like it was a non-professional DVD.
It probably doesn't have copyright management on it.
Put it in your DVD player on your computer.
Right click your DVD player under My Computer and choose Explore. If you see two files, AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS, then just copy these to your hard drive and burn them on another disk.
Copyright videos from major studios take a decryption program and a shrinking program but it doesn't sound like you need those.

download "DVDfab Platinum" or "Clone DVD" but I don't know if they works on a mac
