I wish that they could do more. But as long as Bush is still in power, his priority is to fund the military and to engage in more conflict with the middle east.

Yes, on a State and Local Level.Federal Assistance was Initially Offered Prior to the Storm's Arrival, and was Refused by Mayor Nagin and Governor Blanco. Also, School Buses that could have been Utilized for Evacuation were instead allowed to Flood. The Levees that were supposed to help Limit the Flooding were allowed to fall into Disrepair, and were seldom properly Inspected by State Officials. And there have been numerous instances of Financial Mis-Management , the Funding of an S&M Parlor with Federal Tax Payer Dollars, along with Prostitutes, Big Screen TV's, Expensive Jewlery, Fema Trailers left to Rot away, and many other Instances of State and Local Mis-Management of Federal Funds.Millions of Dollars Wasted this way, and so many say "Blame Bush"? I don't Think So ! Why doesn't Florida have these Problems ? Nothing much is ever said about that ! "Blame" that Bush !

I think they spent too much already. If you read the Constitution, you will find that it does not authorize the Government to spend money to cover private losses.
I'm fine with the Federal Government covering the cost of the rescues, the emergency supplies, even the relocation expenses. I'll also accept the Government paying to repair roads, bridges, and other public assets.
I am offended however, by people who have been receiving assistance for a year, and are still demanding more. Unemployment only lasts six months, and that's paid for by the employers. What gives these people the right to keep reaching into my pocket and taking the money I could use to fix up MY house?

What, the government has screwed up what they promised already.. Hell a woman with a handicapped kid can't get a trailer for her and her kid except a bit bigger than a travel trailer.... and she's trying to rebuild but needs a place to care for her son while it's being rebuilt
FEMA and the bunch are stupid by wasting money instead of accounting for it and trying to do good with all of it... Yeah I agree that things should be pushed with the freeloaders, but hey, Our US government created them years ago, all FEMA and Katrina did was put them on the nightly news.
To give you an idea, Rita was almost as bad as a storm as Katrina... you don't hardly hear anything about Rita victims because most were white and rural... but guess what, they've been putting their lives back together
And I went through both storms so people can't tell me I don't know how "they" feel..

No. Time to let the free loaders go. I live here. We took Katrina victims in. Then we were assaulted with Rita a few weeks later. We came home and cleaned up what needed to be done and got on with repairing our lives. Many Katrina victims are still living off the government expecting a free ride. In fact, they were the ones getting a free ride in the first place and now they keep sucking us dry. A year is enough time. Time to get moving a start living... you only have one life

No. I grew up in Florida. Although we were fortunate to escape a direct hit, we were often flooded or had property damage.
I cannot think of one time my parents expected the government to help us.
The immediate needs at the time required a humanitarian response, and it was given. Every state opened its doors. Some people desire to rebuild. Fine. This is a Lousiana decision, not a federal one.

in terms of lives lost, you're precise. Katrina replaced into unfavourable. yet who is conscious what the autumn out would be from the destruction of moist lands and our coastal aspects? Fishing industries and jobs would be lost. Wild life lost and thanks to the poisonous dispersant's used maximum cancers costs might bypass up or people heavily isn't waiting to eat shell fish or fish for a protracted time. people will lose their energetic hood and we will not recover from this for years!

They can always do more, if they want to. But, they can pay more attention on their own problem, when they get theri hands out of other people's problem, and they r not even solving other people's problem they r just wasting their own money and making people's life miserable.
