I had a 2nd degree tear and was stitched but I have noticed in between that a small pink piece of something is sticking out and when I wipe a certain way it gets to bleeding a small bit..will this heal on its own? Anyone else had this kind of problem - stitches not healing right or coming apart? Its been almost 7 weeks since I had my baby. I went to my 6wk checkup and she seemed to not even really look and said it was fine..which totally ticked me off.

What you seem to be describing is a tiny bit of the suture material that has not or is not being absorbed by your body. The smaller diameter "thread" has a pinkish coloring. Your body reacts to it just as it would a splinter, and gradually it pushes it to the surface of the skin. Not that a splinter in that area is that comfortable, but that's what it likely is. When you wipe, you are catching on the tiny bit sticking out. I don't know that there is any cure but time, as your body decided to either absorb it or reject it. The tissues are still sensitive and healing, and nobody can give you an exact time frame in which that will all be finished.
Even if your stitches completely gave, or if you were never stitched to begin with, the skin would heal itself. Stitches do help hasten healing, and they make the scar look nicer- but in most cases folks would heal just fine even if a cut was never stitched. In this case, how your scar looks isn't really important, and it would much more painful to meddle with tissue that was healing anyway. Which is probably why your doctor didn't do much- though she should have explained all that to you. Since your skin was torn as opposed to being cut for an episotomy, the tissues will take a bit longer to heal than usual, and may well be sensitive to rough paper for a while as well. Keep things cleaned well after toilet, use a hemmorhoid pad patted on to help soothe the inflammed tissues, and pat dry. If you are able to go without knickers (panties), do so as often as possible. I dare say a bit of sunlight would also help- but, well, it's for you to decide how and if you can accomplish that bit. The air flow alone will do a lot of good. In days gone by, they used to put sunlamps to shine where the sun wouldn't, to help hasten the healing. It's still a valid treatment, just not very practical outside of the hospital. Anyway, congratulations on the new baby. If things don't show improvement in the next bit, return to your doctor for specific attention to the errant bit of suture material. He/she may be able to solve the problem with a slight tug, though it will make it tender at that spot again.

I recently had my baby -- 5 weeks ago and I had a similar experience. It looked like a small, pink piece of skin (skin tag). Which is exactly what it was ... I had my family doctor check out my episiotomy. She informed me that the OBGYN that stitched me up did a fast, poor job ... only she put it on other words. I was basically sewed up like an animal and it happens quite frequently! It's caused from not carefully pulling the skin back together "neatly". Instead they stitch here & there and can catch skin between stitches & create a skin tag. Which I was also told to be careful because if rubbed too hard or irritated it could bleed. I would have another doctor check it out for you - if you don't feel confident that the Dr who performed the episiotomy has any interest in your concerns. She said that it would heal with time. The skin tag itself may shrink a bit (swelling goes down), but nothing can be done now & there shouldn't be any complications.

You may take a little longer to heal (considering its been 7 weeks).
I feel your frustration though - my OBGYN acted as if nothing was wrong when my instincts told me different. Trusts your instincts!

Good luck - I hope everything turns out okay for you.

My son is five and when I wipe I still notice where the tear was. It's sounds somewhat the way you describe yours and sticks out a little in places. When you wipe and it bleeds it may be because it's still healing and doesn't tolerate wiping yet. Try patting the area dry and keep using your peri bottle to cleanse the area. (You should have gotten a bottle to spray water on that area in the hospital.) In the meantime, get some tucks pads, if you don't already have some. I found that if you place them in your underware and change them with each toileting, it has the best effect. The tucks will decrease the swelling in that area--they're not just for hemorrhoids. Please don't let others scare you. The wound is different when you tear then when you have a surgical episotomy.
Hope this helps a little.

Typically, they put in stitches that dissolve on their own. Not sure what it is. but you should be healed by now, but you still may be bleeding from the delivery. It took a while for me to stop bleeding completley. If you are still concerned get a second opinion.

Go back and have the Dr. look at it. If you are not happy with that DR. then make an appointment to see a surgeon or a wound specialist. They can look at wounds and tell if they are healing correctly. You have a lot on your mind this should not over whelm you. But you have to be proactive. Good luck
