Chain drive is noisy and you have to make sure when replacing that the sprockets are the same as the chain. Where as in a belt drive system you will get a smoother and quieter ride. Replacement depends only on the size and nothing else. If the chain breaks, you get whipped hard. If the belt breaks, you don't because the belt in itself is lightweight and will tend to fly downward instead of upward. Hope this helps.

Easy question, Belt drive = No Lubricant every 3000 miles, thus no crap on the rear rim and chainguard. Belts last 50k miles Chains 30 k miles. Belts need little adjustment as well. Belts I think are quieter. Harleys are now all belt drive they have been since 1993 when they gave the Sportster the belt.

Chain drives are still used in racing as they transfer H.P. to the rear tire without stretching and slipping, though the difference is hard to tell if you don't drive that way. I have not had a chain on any of my bikes for over 15 years and the headache they cause I don't miss. I think I prefer my softails belt to my old Honda's drive shaft.

if you are touring abroad you will need to carry a spare belt because way-out places won't have a replacement. Most places can find a chain and it is not too hard to remove a few chain links to make it the correct length. I'd still rather have a belt or a shaft.

A belt drive requires less maintenance and has a smoother power delivery over a chain, but is less efficient. You'll get slightly better mileage and power with a chain drive.

I haven't found any drawbacks yet. Some say less power, but I don't notice it.
Rear wheel as clean as my shaft drive was, and less adjustment than a chain.
Don't know about breakage, never broke a chain either.

belts are quieter and smoother. But if a belt brakes on the road its a lot harder to repair. if you bust a chain you can always take a master link off your keychain to fix your chain.
