I usually take a wire coat hanger and undo it into a long wire. Then make a small hook in about the last 1/2" .Then ..go "Gerbil hunting"
poke it down the drain as far as it will go..then turn it around a few times and pull up slooooooow...make sure that you haven't just eaten lunch or you'll have a bigger mess.
You'll then more than likely pull up a big long gooey mass that looks like a greasy gerbil..lol...you'll be TOTALLY GROSSED OUT, but ya know what? Your drain will work like it was BRAND NEW! and life will be SWEET and NO more standing in dirty water while you're taking a shower. Next time you're taking a nice bath/shower you'll say "THANKYOU HOWLNWOOF" and I'll know that somewhere someone is thanking me..and they're naked..heheh
Good Luck

A plunger would work on a tub drain, just as well as a toilet. You are assuming that plumbing tools have dedicated tools that never get used to fix other kinds of plumbing fixes. Just be grateful he knows how to fix things. Many people can't fix anything and end up paying some professional alot of money to do simple fixes. If you really think the plunger is that disgusting, either buy a second plunger or spray the plunger down with a Bleach cleaner spray.

If possible, remove the drain screen or stopper. Some of them lift out, some of them unscrew, some are not easily removed. Next, use a plunger to loosen and drive out the clog. Hair is the most common culprit and a mass of it can oftentimes be removed by picking it out with your fingers or tweezers or a crochet hook.
Resort to drain cleaning compounds only if mechanical cleaning (plunger) does not work. If clog is stubborn and the trap is accessible from beneath, you may be able to disassemble the trap after removing the water from the tub. Clean the interior of the trap and the tube leading to it and the pipe which runs downline from it. Reassemble the plumbing and test for leaks.

is it only the tub not the sink clog? You can purchase a small flexible plastic strip similar to the "snake tapes" use by plumbers it is only about 3 ft. long . you just push it down the drain and start yanking it up to pull "hair" out of the tube. available at walmart, home, depot, Lowe's. you can also use a plunger

device sold at hardware stores...small tubelike, fits in drains and you attach to water hose...fit in drain, then turn on hose and hold it in...while it expands...and shoots out a high pressure stream into your drain...and pops the clog out...works great dont rem what its called...but takes only a min to work
