I think it is. My eyes deteriorated really rapidy after I took a job where I sat infront of a computer all day. I now need to wear glasses for my long distance vision, because my eyes only focus properly on things that I sit quite close to e.g tv, computer, books etc. My optometrist said if I didn't rest my eyes often (ie look away from the screen) they would continue to get worse.

Must be all those x-rays from the tv. (Just kidding). You should look away as often as you can. I have always done this especially when I'm reading a book I look up across the room to give my eyes a rest. Otherwise pretty soon you might have trouble focusing your eyes on objects far away.
