Recently bought Boxer pup. Got an excellent dog. Searched internet by dog breed, found breeders within range I was willing to travel. Went to see the litter and bought a pup that I felt suited to me. I suggest you read some professoinal advise on choosing a pup, Public library or pet shop may be good resource. A good pup reaches its potential through good rearing, call it parenting if you prefer. You are the rearer / parent. Your knowledge about training and care will pay great benefits for you and the dog for a long rewarding relationship.

each breed of dog has its own personality and special characteristics. get into the American Kennel Club web site and read up on the different breed..pick one according to what you have in mind doing with the dog. don't just pick a dog at random because all puppies are cute...if you don't like barking, licking, jumping...whatever you need to be knowledgeable about the breed.

Please don't buy dogs from people that breed them. There are so many dogs (all breeds) at shelters that need loving homes.

More than likely there is a website for a dog shelter in your county. Use a search engine to find it and go from there.
