The answers above may work fine but Iam concerned about it be an antique couch. Older couches have to be cleaned with care, the colours easily run, the fabric may not be able to withstand certain cleaning methods without damage occurring, be careful, try a test area first, usually somewhere on the back where you can hide any damage. Make sure you have no colours running with the method you chose. If it were me I would call in a professional cleaner to do this, for what it will cost to buy different products, taking a risk of damaging your couch it will be safer to hire. Any reputable company will also carry insurance in case of any damage.

I heard that washing it with a Massengil (douche) powder and water will help. I have never tried it but I am getting ready to buy it because my dogs are not well potty trained and I find myself throwing a lot of things away. I have the urine gone and it is OK but it cost $20.00 and it is not cost effective. I tried the vinegar on a shirt today and it got rid of the odor and the stain.

when I had cats I was always told vinegar, but it never worked in the car, I could always smell it after the vinegar smell went.
If I were you I would ask a vet because they would know!!
Also I would get a cleaner, a professional to do the job because the couch is antique.
good luck

Don't use any chemicals.. it will lighten the fabric. The best thing to do is use water and vinegar. Vinegar is nature's disinfectant/odor remover. Good luck

There's some wonderful stuff available at most chain pet stores (Petco/Petsmart) called "Nature's Miracle". We used that.. it's not staining, non smelly, will not remove any color from your carpet/furniture, and is extremely effective at removing urine and all it's odiferousness. Good luck!
