i mean what does the d in d day mean

Day. Pretty stupid, huh? I read somewhere that the Army could use any letters it wanted to symbolize dates and times, except for D, H, and J, which could only be used to signify a major battle such as D-Day. The H was for H-Hour. The J? It's because that policy was instituted in WWII when the French were our allies. The J was taken for J-Jour--Day-Day again! And you thought the French were so sophisticated.
