Not sure if your wife is depressed or you've made her angry so I'm going to tell you to do what works for me. Whenever I'm down, my husband knows to stay away from the sentimental stuff, it'll only bring tears, especially if she's truly depressed. What he does is crack me up. One time he did jumping jacks naked...not something I recommend, but thought it was worth sharing. The one thing I can recommend is this:
Take a blanket, lay it outside (we did it on our roof), get a bottle of wine and two PLASTIC(things break on the roof) cups and take them out too. (please do this when the stars are out and rather visible...this time of year is great for that) Then have her dress warm and comfy, blindfold her and lead her outside. The cool air will instantly clear her mind. Lead her to the blanket, but don't take of the blindfold and sit her down. She'll feel the blanket, maybe the wine bottle and smirk a little....but it's not over. Get behind her, wrap your arms around her and whisper in her ear "Honey, I hate seeing you like this, now we can have a nice little talk and you can tell me what's up over a bottle of wine like you do with your girlfriends, OR I'm going to use the blindfold to gag you, tie you to the tree and get drunk on this bottle of wine while I watch you squirm". She'll either laugh or slug you...wait for her reaction and then say you were just kidding, you just didn't know how to cheer her up and you were trying. Guaranteed to make her smile hon.

I married my husband because he takes up my causes. Whatever my goal is, he finds a way to help me achieve it. I'm a rather goal oriented kind of gal. Anyway, It still impresses me after all these years when he does that, and I fall a little deeper in love with him.
As examples, he will encourage me take a class to learn more about a new interest. He'll help me find an item on-line to suit a project, or a book to clarify my thoughts on a subject. He'll repair an item that has sentimental value, rather than replace it, even if it is more trouble to repair it. When I found out my old boyfriend was going hungry, he gave me his debit card to buy him some groceries. If I am busy, he will take up more housekeeping chores.
In subtle ways, he is my knight in shining armour. He always finds a way to touch my heart without big dramatic gestures.

My husband often tells me how attracted he is to me and it doesn't have any effect. The other day when he came home from work and I was busy doing the usual housefrau things he says to me, "I am always happy to come home and see you."
Ker-splishhhhhhh Coochie Coupon!
Just say something unexpected and nice. Nothing overly mushy that will let her know that you don't take her for granted and won't make her think you're up to something. There is always the occasional jewelry upgrade never hurts either.

What about a romantic walk on the beach or park with a surprise picnic. Wine, music, and love that you may have forgotten to show in the past.

Doing little things to let her know she is in your mind. Clean a room, flowers, dinner out or cooked at home. Compliment on her hair, outfit, how good dinner is etc. Do like you did when you first met. Little things mean a lot.

Remember how you used to talk on the phone in high school? Try it now. You don't even have to sneak out the house to go see her after you hang up!! It's your house. ... hid a note in her purse - wrap it around her credit/debit card- reminding her how much you love her. Write her a love letter and mail it.

what is making her unhappy? it sounds like there are alot of unresloved issues in the relationship......i suggest taking her for a holiday or out to a movie, concert or a play that she wants to see, or on a boat ride, a walk on the beach or take her out SHOPPING!!!
Good luck and hope your wife starts smiling soon.....

Wait for a good moment then kiss her with your hands on her face...then right after the kiss, take a deep breath and close your eyes and say "Sometimes you make it hard to breathe"
