Why can't you buy a lotto scratcher with your debit card?

I was at the 76 gas station and they said i had to pay cash for the scratcher. Anyone know why?

Some states don't allow it. Some allow it or are modifying it to allow you to use your debit card. You must use debit button and enter your pin.

In addition to the first answer it appeases the anti-gambling groups. The thought of someone racking up gambling related debt via a credit (or debit) card gives those folks nightmares!

Because any purchase on a credit/debit card can be disputed. Cash purchases can't.
