I'm fortunate enough to not be one of those starving people, but I couldn't agree with you more. We have such a screwed up government that we can't even take care of our own, yet we are willing to go billions in debt to help others. It makes no sense to me.

Do you realize that if you were to not have any celebrity awards ceremonies for just one year, the money saved on that alone could fill all the food pantries in the US for five years? I read that and realized our priorities are really screwed up.

You are right, but only in a way. US is a country of freedom to everyone. Free education, free shelter, etc. etc. Sometimes you can just get a job, even if it's little, pronto if you try for it. I'm partly glad that the US is helping other countries because other countries do NOT have the same advantages as the US. They suffer about 92% more than the people in the US here. In rags they walk through the dirt, having no opprtunities usually for anything. Why, they'd kill to come and become one of the starving people of the US. The US is a country that likes to give chances, and it just seems better that'd they help poverty on the other side of the world. At least here people help each other, with shelter houses and all. In other countries, little kids with no mother go around begging and suffering and usually no one would even glance at them with pity.

At least some people here CAN get education and pave a brighter future. What you get is what you did to yourself.

Other countries doesn't even give those little kids a chance.

I could not agree with you more on this point, charity should begin at home, and by that I mean with your neighbors and then working outwards to your fellow country man.

Years ago I was doing a Charity thing raising money for special care baby units [in VERY short supply in the UK] at the very same time as these units where being closed down all around the country it was shown in full colour on the television what the British Government had done in Africa which was build equip and funds to man a special care baby unit for FIVE years over there whilst many of our own was having to be flown 100's of miles to the ONLY space available.
Then and now I still thought it was very unfair and unjust that we was asking the man on the street to dig deep into his pockets to keep ours open thru charity and yet the government could find the several billion pounds to operate one over there.

Yes indeed they should and I get rather cranky. My idea of America helping others is us first making certain everyone *here* has a home, a job , food and clothing (medical would be good but that's within the realms of fantasy) before we start lavishing stuff on other folk. Yes, I know they need help too..but how about we feed our own children? You do realize this is really a lose/lose question, my Dear? Blessings.

I'm sure they do. I am a born US Citizen. And I have always thought we should help our own first. The food donations should stay right here to help the hungry. There are too many other ways to help the hungry in other countries. One that comes to mind is "Job Corp". They are well known for helping people learn farming skills.

I completely agree with your point. The starving American people should come before the starving people of other countries, who really hate us. Billions of dollars is spent feeding the needy of other countries. Imaginge what that money can do for the hungry people right here at home...

Wouldn't you get upset? Isn't it amazing how the american people are the last to get help.. and this happens everyday. The first people to get help in this country are all the ones who don't have any roots here. (I'm talking all the ones who have come here on their own to live in the great USA, to work 3 jobs, have 15 people living in the same house and sending all their money back home while they get free medical, dental, housing, and food stamps, while the rest of us True Americans bust our butts working, trying to make ends meet, pay high taxes so our country can help everyone else. Please don't get me going, it makes me sick!!!!!!!!

There are no starving people in the United States. Countries with starving people don't have stray dogs. People eat them. There is free food everywhere. Go into any unemployment office or welfare office and ask where you can get free food. It's everywhere. You must be living in another country and reading propaganda about the United States. If you live here, just ask yourself, how many people have you met here that were starving? And don't you feel a little bit like an idiot for making such a statement?

EvilRed, so you run a homeless shelter, but you didn't say you've seen any starving people, just people that can't pay their doctor bill or rent. If YOU don't see starving people, where are they?

I agree as a US citizen. I run a homeless shelter with men women and children and to see that we are so quick to help those overseas bothers me. To see my clients struggle with paying doctor bills (due to no ins.) and sleeping in the back of our facility bc they cant find work is horrible; that this is happening in good ole USA. Yet there are advertisements everyday for feed the hungry overseas and send money to help with paying for medical help.

Yes US should be first god damn it, we have bums on street corners comiing up to anyone walking..buggin for money or a cig or food, and it seems no body cares,but there is also bums that wanna stay bums so what we should do is make a island for them get them beer and bread they will be good
