Most of the time they (water pumps) run off the belt. Timing belts should be changed every 60k and those pumps are there and you should change it too. New tension on that pump will cause it to start seeping from the weep hole. Rule of thumb---new timing belt= new water pump even if it is good. Same with new tires, New tires= allignment! Always.

i love the idea.... some people smoked a lot of cars down not knowing the water pump went out and some of these newer cars cant take half the heat abuse the older ones did. at least now the water pump goes out and the car jumps time and stalls and people know somethings wrong. as for changing them i make decent money

No, I think its great also, Its not a bad idea to change it every 60 or 90k and doesnt cost much more money to do so once youre already in there. What pisses me off is the water pump taking a crap and taking out the crank sensor with it.
