Hey, I have been stamped by the society. What is a mark... except for a question mark?

"I met a traveller from an antique land
Who said:
Two vast and trunkless legs of stone stand in the desert.
Near them, on the sand, half sunk,
a shattered visage lies,
whose frown, and wrinkled lip,
and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor
well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed:
And on the pedestal these words appear:
"My name is Ozymandias, king of kings:
Look on my works, ye Mighty, and despair!"
--poem by Percy Bysshe Shelley (1792-1822)
'Ozymandias'
above, is a poem we learned in school
teaching us, even as children
that....
if kings
of great power and wealth
end up
unknown
by modern men
and his works
end up
as small broken pieces
blown away in a sandy desert,
we should be wary of
deluding ourselves
that anyone
will
remember US
after we're dead
two generations after your death
no one will have known you as a person
your marks that live on after you die
will be the ones you make
on your family's hearts and spirits
they are the carriers of
who you really are/were

Not so much society as a whole, I'd like to think that I made a difference in the lives of a few people.

I think it depends on what kind of mark i would leave. A positive mark where i was known to have made a difference for an improvement, that is a good aspiration. I think it is all to common for people to desire to leave a mark where they are known for their degradation, corrupt values, and lack of moral judgment, to which I would say no thanks.

Oh I have already...I have helped bring two children into the world... that's sure to impact society someday. Whether that'll be a good or bad thing is up to the courts to decide.
