I have the newsest pc out there, the new intel core 2 duo processor 6700, 2gb memory, 350gb hard drive. My problem is burning ANYTHING! i use Nero and when I do everything freezes up, this is why I upgraded and its still pathetic, 30 mins to burn 1 disk. Is there another program I should use? Should I change drives? I have an NEC burner btw which is less then a year old. Someone give me answers before I blow it up!

The burner is a DVD dual layer NEC brand burner. Ive installed Nero properly and this was happening on my old PC as well. The disks are at 8x but my main concern is that I cant do anything on the pc when Nero is running

calm down ....yes u have problem but there is a solution to it not as drastic as u might think.....Nero is the easiest CD burner.....some times u can download the Nero and just not quite get it correct.....at the beginning of Nero install it has install for internal divers load this is only a one time thing....then install Nero program u just did not put all the drivers in ur computer ....Now u have to go into add/remove programs to uninstall Nero then go into ur C:\ program files and delete Nero folder ...after this is finished ...then re install Nero.....and it will work for u ....but sometimes u have to understand copyright ...Nero can burn but sometimes it takes longer than usual to burn a copyright it is not impossible.....just the buffer under run has to breach the copyright in order to burn CD ....

See if Nero has any updates, do a spyware scan and check to see if NEC has a firmware update. Check your disks - if you are using 8x dvd's it will be slower than if you use 16x dvd's. You cannot burn faster than what the disk is rated for. I have also found (with CDs at least) some of the ratings are inflated. The best I could do with a major (unnamed) 16x brand was 8x. I switched brands and was able to burn at 16x with one and 24x with another.

well first of all what dc burner do you have? if your computer is top of the line but your cd unit is old there will be no difference from an old one.

you can also try to use a different burning software, such as roxio or whatever, and also check your cds maybe they are damaged and that makes your computer crash.
if all of the above fails i suggest you make a virus search.

Time to troubleshoot.
If it's windows xp, you can burn right from the folder of tunes. That should be the most basic and tell you if it's the software, some conflict or a crapped out drive.

Hey, is this a cd burner or a dvd burner?
if it is a dvd burner is it double layered, does it also burn cd's properly?

if it is an audio cd it shouldnt take that long. Try burning from itunes (apple.com) or windows media player. if it is a dvd 30 minutes is not long, and you will be hardpressed to find a program that will burn it faster.

it might be a glitch, try undownloading it and re downloading it so that maybe the glitch will dissapear. or it could be which site u got it from, it could have a viris hidden in it.
