The Philippines was colonized by Spain for 400 years and in the First half of the 20th Century by the United States. Most Filipino first names are now English, and having their last name as Spanish. The Filipino dialect has 10% Spanish in it.

There are some other Catholic names outside of the Spanish tradition; most of my best friends from high school are Filipinos, and some of them have names like Claude, Casey, and Rian.
