Hi. I'm in the first week of night portering at a hotel in the sth west of the UK. Wondered if there were any night shift hotel workers online?. Its very spooky, noises everywhere - i've done night shifts years ago at hotels in London but there was always 2 of us. It doesn't help when supervisory staff keep leaving doors open to the front river and they swing open after everyone goes to bed!. I'm the first women they've had doing nights here.....wonder if its the right job as l don't want to wander around the dark hotel doing checks! (i've left al the lights tonight, not worth scaring myself!). Are you a night porter and how do you find the job??

It's only a 53 bedroom hotel. I spend about 2 hours cleaning, then the rest of the time is for myself which is good as l start studying with OU next week. Most small hotels only have 1 night porter as far as l know. I worked at the Army and Navy Club in Pall Mall, private members club but with bedrooms. Have also worked at the RAC opposite. There are no function rooms here, l've never worked in a leisure hotel where most people are in bed by midnight!. Although l've just had a call from a room on the 2nd saying someone is banging on his door...went to investigate but ended up calling the duty manager - guest locked themself out of the room, luckily he was next door to the DM...wasn't keen on seeing what the problem was as l'm always convinced someone has broken in...l hope after a few weeks l stop fretting!, that sort of thing never happens here, but have had a awful first 3 nights alone. It would be better with 2 people, but most people wouldn't agree with me as re. workload

Yes,been doing it for 12 years.I`m not at a hotel though,i work in a university.Plenty going on here until about 4 am.Most of the little darlings are in bed now, just the odd party going on!During holiday time this place is very much like a hotel with visitors from all over the place. It becomes a conference center,b+b for holidaymakers etc.Two hours to go,then home to bed !!
