You would think by now that people have gotten the picture, realized that having kids when you're not ready is NOT the way to get ahead in life etc.! Plus, I thought kids these days are trying ever harder to be well qualified for college and professions etc.... And also, it seems that "Planned Parenthood" and even abortions etc. are more readily available than ever... I'm always shocked when I hear someone talking about "so-and-so" that they know had a baby when she was 16 or 17, or when I heard the other day that a woman at my client was 37 and a grandma, or when I see people on Yahoo Answers talk about "yeah... I was 17 when I had my first kid...." -- I'm always amazed that the people in the situations above talk about it like it's nothing! I mean, seriously, everyone had to have at least someone older in their family that was utterly disappointed in them for getting pregnant as a teen?! How can people just act like it's "ok"? What is the deal?

I don't have kids but it sort of makes me think I'd want to start lacing their food with crushed up birth control pills once they get their periods...

First, teens are notorious for poor judgment. THey are full of homones and horney as heck. Second-our society has artificially exstended childhood. Our bodies are physically mature while the law still sees us as kids. Third- just because abortion is legal and available, doesn't mean that people will use it, many find it to be unacceptable. Four-if that was your daughter, would you waste alot of time condeming her, or would you do everything in your power to make sure she and your grandchild had a bright future.

And yes, I had my son when I was 17. I also went to college, graduated and was accepted to three medical schools. I now teach in a town in the mid-west.

Early pregnancy does not equal a failed life. And all life is precious.

Five-Teen pregnancy is actually on the decline, its just noticed more because in the past, young women were sent away, had the baby, which was put up for adoption, and then came home. No one ever said anything.

My daughter is in her very early 20's.....she has lots of friends male & female & not one of them is pregnant or has any children.

We only hear about the negatives.

It's true this is still a big problem.....but there are lots of kids who are paying attention.

Why are you so mad? It's not you, and it's not your business. By the way, I was 16 when I first had my son, and I have a good job, a good car, and a nice apartment. And my son is beautiful and healthy, and my parents ADORE him. You shouldn't judge others. And I'm SO thankful I didn't have an abortion, my son is the light of my world. Thank you.
