In addition to the suggestions by Mad Roy, I would also add peppermint essential oil applied topically over the abdomen. If your skin is sensitive, you may dilute it with natural cooking oil or unscented cream.
Aloe vera juice is also very healing and balancing to the digestive system.

I understand the question and don't have an herbal remedy but I just wanted to sort of warn you about that reflux stuff. I never ever had heartburn or any symptoms and I got a scope done (they were doing a first time colonoscopy and insisted the scope be done, too) and I was surely not expecting any problems at all. They said that the reflux I had over the years had gone untreated and had burned the cells in my esophagus to the point that it changed the cells. They are precancerous now and I have what's called Barrett's Syndrome. I have to get checked regularly and take Acidphex twice daily for the rest of my life.
I just wanted to caution you to be sure you are treated - it could save your life. I have heard of people having this Barrett's and then it goes onto esophogeal cancer. I don't drink alcohol and quit smoking 15 years ago. I'm in my late 40's and am a mom.
If you find an herbal remedy - I sure would like to know as I would add it to the prescription medicine I have to take.
Good luck to you and God's Blessings!

Oh, I suffer w/ Acid Reflux as well and it's awful. I am on Protium 40mg once a day and I take it about 30-40 mins before I eat and I generally have no problems once I've taken this tablet. I tried a natural remedy but it didn't do the trick for me =( Hope all is well.

CELERY.
I'm not exactly sure why, but I have suffered from acid reflux/gerd for years. I was on several medications including Zelnorm but couldn't STAND how expensive it was and sometimes I'd forget to tak a pill and the acid would come back. And nothing over-the-counter would work for me. I also wanted to try something natural instead. I search for weeks online and many people mentioned vinegar and baking soda, but BLEGH! those were gross. And baking soda really wasn't enough to fully stop my acid. One woman mentioned celery and I decided to try it. I get acid worse in the morning, so on an empty stomache I ate one stalk of celery and PRESTO, my acid was gone ALL DAY. Maybe it won't work for everyone, but if you like celery, seriously try it. It's soo cheap, healthy, and works FAST. Plus Celery counts as negative calories because you burn more calories eating it than it has! That might have something to do with why it works. Celery takes a lot more effort to digest, so perhaps all that extra acid goes to breaking it down.
Also, lay off foods that contain HIGH FRUCTOSE CORN SYRUP. Studies have shown it causes stomache problems and can lead to serious health risks. This is found in most breakfast foods/bread (even whole grain breads) and junk food. Get organic food. Vons sells all kinds of competitive organic products now that taste GREAT! Get bread that uses honey or molasses instead of corn syrup. I learned that any morning that I ate something with that in it, I got acid reflux right away. I switched to natural grains and fruit and it's helped tremendously.
But CELERY CELERY CELERY. Try it.

Peppermint would be contra-indicated for acid reflux. It causes sphincter muscle that normally closes stomach from esophagus to relax and open, whereas your goal is to keep this shut. (I know of one surgeon who squirts peppermint oil on tissue during open abdominal surgery to relax the muscle, that's how effective it is.) There are enteric-coated peppermint oil capsules for patients with problems lower in the GI so capsule will exit the stomach intact and only open in the small intestine. This does not apply here.
Don't even think of combining vinegar & baking soda. Mixture is a homemade drain cleaner, highly corrosive, will harm delicate mucosae of the GI.
Mad Roy's suggestions are good.
Less meat is good. Less animal protein, at least for a time. Get complete proteins from bean/grain combinations.
Move towards more alkaline, less acidic diet. Translation: more vegetables & fruits, less animal protein. Try only ancient grains - quinoa, kamut, spelt, amaranth - for a time. Avoid white flour products altogether and, if you can for a time, avoid wheat, oat & rye grain products. Organic long brown rice would be good.
Aloe gel would be helpful.
One last item never mentioned on this board but it's quite wonderful. Slippery elm bark powder. Just what it sounds like - the inner bark or cambium layer of the slippery elm tree. A pale-pink powder that, when mixed with water or fruit juice, forms a pleasant-tasting mucilage with demulcent and healing properties. Add to said water or juice, mash out lumps immediately, allow to thicken for 2-3 hours. You can add chopped fruit - it will be a fruit pudding, like a small dessert. You would take a relatively small amount, about 1/3 cup, on an empty stomach at least two hours before a meal or before taking any meds. Reason: the mucilage will coat (and gradually heal) inflamed mucosae of alimentary tract and if taken at mealtimes, would interfere with proper digestion & metabolism of healthy food. So one must be careful to take slippery elm hours before a meal.
Some find cabbage helpful. Others warn against the entire brassica family of veggies. Perhaps give cabbage a try.
Buy high-quality enzymes & take with meals. Be sure you get brand that will aid digestion of carbohydrates, lipids AND protein - this latter (enzyme for protein) can be hard to find.
Buy high-quality probiotics. Lactobacillus, bifidus.

The best way to elimanate acid reflux is to quit eating meat, junk food, soda pop, and to make sure you don't go to bed on a full stomach.
