I already have the child support and custody issues taken care of due to the attorney general's office, I have been seperatde for a year, and now I am trying to get the divorce, but lawyers are expensive. I don't feel it will be contested, I just haven't figured out a good way to come about it.

If you two can hammer out a divorce agreement between you two, you can save money by having a paralegal complete the paperwork. It would take the standard filing fees with the courts unfortunately which can vary greatly. I have listed some resources below for further reading on the subject matter.

Getting Legal Aid in Texas is possible but not always easy to get services. I used the legal aid in Abilene, and they denied my claim for services 3 times before finally taking my case. (Disabled Veteran on a fixed income and they said I did not meet their criteria). I just kept submitting applications and they finally took my case in 2005, and my divorce has been final for a year now. The following site is for Northwest Texas, but has links to other parts of Texas if you take the time to look.
