the raven is one of the most intelligent birds
--"tales say that ravens will hunt with wolves
and share the kill with them
--"once paired, ravens mate for life
--the raven is "strongly associated with storms and floods...
"perhaps the best known is the description of the raven's role on Noah's ark during the flood depicted in Genesis.
In this story the raven is sent off by Noah to see whether or not the waters have subsided—but the raven never returns.
"there are stories from North America which closely parallel the earlier Babylonian associations of flood and raven.
"the Algonquin Indians relate a myth which was recorded in 1634 describing how the sun was hunting with wolves when he entered a lake. The lake overflowed and submerged the world. The sun then asked the raven to search out some dry land to make the world again, but the raven could not find any.
--"to kill a raven is very bad luck
--"in Swedish folklore, ravens are the ghosts of murdered individuals who have not had a proper Christian burial,
--and in Germany, ravens were thought to be damned souls"

in "alaska fish and game"
--"in medieval times ravens represented virility.
--"among native cultures, Raven is the 'trickster' spirit,
--"a popular totem,
--"and the creator of man, who placed the Sun in the sky."
...quote from: "the aviary"
--"you can not imprint a raven completely,
regardless of how you get them. A friend of mine raised some from the egg and even so, they took mates and moved back out into the wild."
--"have you ever seen a raven try to comfort a small child in tears? They do it with children that they consider family members. Few people have witnessed this behavior. I have seen it more than once while raising our girls. That is a complex emotion if ever there was. How is it that a bird can recognize the emotional needs of a human and react accordingly?"

in: "a glimpse into the world of ravens"

That's happened to me a few times. No biggie. If it's above freezing I open the window and give it a piece of bread. If it's below freezing I just ignore him. Ravens are very smart.
