Yes, don't be silly. Greeks are Christians. We do everything, go to church...I agree with what she said above me. We have other celebrations as well, but Christmas is one of the biggest we celebrate, besides weddings.

Greek Orthodoxes celebrate christmas in December 25th. The celebrations are identical to the ones of the Catholics (we celebrate Christmas more or less similarly to most European countries). There's one thing different though: Santa Claus visits on New Year's Eve not on Christmas Eve. Plus we make traditional food (except from stuffed turkey, there are sweet treats like 'kourabiedes' and 'melomakarona'). Another custom that is becoming increasingly rare is having a Christmas boat instead of a Christmas tree in some parts of Greece (mostly islands).

Of course Christmas is celebrated in Greece. On the 25th of December (Easter is celebrated according to the Julian calendar) , with the Christmas tree, the gifts, the Agio Vasili ( Greek Santa Claus - who in Greece used to reward kids on the night of the 31st of December but now he comes on Christmas) , cities are decorated accordingly and Athens was boasting until recently for having the tallest Christmas tree in Europe. Families gathered for the Christmas lunch on the day but lately Christmas Eve celebrations dominate. Traditionally pork was eaten (and in some cities it still is) but many have a turkey as well and of course the season pastries described earlier. Schools are closed for two weeks and open usually on the 7th of January. There is a tradition for kids who on Christmas Eve go from door to door and sing about the Birth of Christ and people give them pastry (traditionally) or money (modern).
Also, some fast for 40 days & they take communion on the 25th.

well of course we do . Greeks are orthodox Christians. according to some researchers Greek are the second nation that believes more in god after the Americans. Italians are third. Christmas's is on December 25. its the second most important celebration after Easter. in Greece everyone is christian apart from some immigrants from Albany and Bulgaria . we DO give presents to others . the traditional sweets are melomakarona and kourabiedes ( if u live in Boston there is a pastry shop that cooks those sweets ATHANS, i think its on beacon str ) i strongly believe that now days x-mas has become a celebration that gives the opportunity to consume more and more and we forgot their meaning . i hope i was help full if u want more details e mail me . i will help you .

Yes they do. Christmass, Easter and the 15th of August (for Virgin Mary) are the greatest celebrations for Greek Orthodox Church. Also there are many name days of saints that being celebrated, the most famous are : Saint George, Saint Nikolas, Saint Michael and Saint Dimitris.

yeah they celebrate christmas but because they follow the eastern orthodox church they celebrate it on january 7th and it is more of a religious holiday rather than in the US without presents for kids, its more of like a go to church type of thing
