A big part of macho camaraderie and competitivity is joking about sex and trying to get the other person to feel uncomfortable, which is why some guys fool around like that. I don't think it necessarily makes them bi or gay, although it is a possibility that they are and just mask it under the boys will be boys in sports kind of thinking.

Although it sounds like a gay thing, it could also just be lockerroom horsing around. Sports team members are close to each other and will do things that other guys will not.

Does it honestly matter that your friend might be gay. Perhaps they are just mucking around or perhaps it's more and his not ready to come out about it yet. Perhaps you should leave this topic alone with him and in his own time if he is gay he'll tell you.
