War was not our only option, it's the one our enemy presented us with repeatedly for decades. We now are [far to timidly] engaged in it.

We did have a peace initiative. It was called the " A piece of their asses initiative"
They killed americans in beruit, yemen, etc,etc over two decades. We did nothing. They attacked our homeland as a result of "no reaction". We should have bombed them into submission. We didn't now look at the mess we have, a two bit little man from a two bit little country insulting us on the world stage. All we did was opened ourselves up to abuse and ridicule. The rest of the world considers us to be weak now. And, as wussified as the people in the United States have become, and no matter how much the soccer moms, and stay at home daddys want to believe that you can reason with bullie, you can't. And this world is full of bullies. Inaction leads to submission. Peace? Give me a break. Peace is for dreamers. It will never happen.

War was the option wanted. Because of that, it was the only option. Sad, really. And how many have died now in that "war"?

I suppose you are refering to the Iraq war.... In that case the Iraqi government was given repeated warnings to comply with resolutions set forth by the United Nations. Diplomacy was tried until it was obvious that the Iraqi leadership had no intention of complying with the Gulf War treaty nor the UN resolutions. Sadam had no respect for the gutless UN. He thought that he had covered all of his bases by bribeing UN ambasadors and officials from other countries (such as Germany, Canada and France. Otherwise known as the " U.N. oil for food scandal". With all of the coruption, the ineptness of the UN, the uncertainties of Iraq's abilities to make mass casualty weapons and Sadams arogant nose thumbing, the US had no other choice (unless you consider sitting back while Sadam continues to threaten the world a viable option) than to declare war. Iraq was given one final chance to conform to the treaty and resolution once war was declared before the attacks were initiated. Once again Sadam refused to comply. Also keep in mind that the decision to declare war was voted on by all of the congress and senate... Republicans and Democrats alike.... nearly every single one of them voted to use military force to bring Iraq into compliance. But, now that public support is not as strong as it once was... the Democrats are backing down from their get tough stance. They are flinching like cowards to garner votes from their liberal base. Most of them know that finishing the job we started in Iraq is certainly the right thing to do... perhaps the most important thing our generation will ever do.... but they will not support the right thing because they would rather get campaign contributions and votes from liberals than stand up for good.

Can you tell us of a peace initiative that ever RESOLVED a fundamental issue between two sides about to go to war?

If not, you have your answer.

If so, it wasn't a fundametal conflict.

let's see......decades of turning the other cheek while Americans were targeted and murdered all over the world didn't seem to be working too well for us.

Would a few more decades have made you happy?

How do you reason with terrorists ? What possible peaceable action would be acceptable after nearly 3000 people were slaughtered while going about their day ?
