Please read the entire book. It is the heartbreaking story of migrant workers, George and Lennie, who are childhood friends. Lennie is more than mildly retarded, and physically very big. George is small and dark. George likes to pet small animals, but often accidently kills them because he does not understand his own strength.
George protects and, somtimes, scolds Lennie. It is a parent/child relationship. Lennie accidently kills a woman at the farm where they work, and George kills Lennie before the posse of men can find him and either hang Lennie or have him sent to death row. George loves Lennie, so he can't stand the thought of him being alone and afraid in jail, or being put to death. It appears they were fighting over the gun, so George is not charged with murder.

Too bad, that was an awsome book. It is about George and Lenny, i think. But any way Lenny always gets into trouble, and George helps him get out of trouble. Anyway they are running away or something, and get a job on some farm so they can save up for their own land. The farm owners son has a beautiful wife, and Lenny likes to hug everything he finds attractive. And he is a huge character. Then in the stable, the beautiful lady (sorry forgot name) lets lenny stroke her hair, because he finds it soft and pretty. Then soon he cuddles too hard, and kills her. George finds out, and in the end George shoots Lenny, but in a peaceful way. Sorry for the lack of description, it has been a while since i read this book.

This is a good book worth reading. You could also rent the newer version of it with Gary Senice that came out in 1992 (DVD available at libraries and movie rentals) - the movie is almost exactly like the book. Or get the Spark Notes to find out everything you need to know for school.

Lennie is a large, strong man with the mind of a child, and George is a smaller man with quick wit.The fate of most ranch workers is saving up enough money to buy a small farm of their own, and "live offa the fatta the lan'." Lennie is driven to this goal by the prospect of "tending the rabbits". However, this goal is only a dream until Candy, another worker on the farm, offers to contribute his savings for a place on the farm.
While subjected to the loneliness and mediocrity of the life they presently lead, George and Lennie's prospect of their own farm attracts yet another hopeful, Crooks, the "*****" stable buck. Despite their best efforts, however, the dream begins to collapse, completely falling apart when Lennie accidentally kills the wife of Curley, a worker and son of the ranch boss. After Curley's wife, who is a tart with a wandering eye, dies in his arms, Lennie escapes to the river where the story had begun, the place where George told him to go should he ever get into trouble (Note the circular ending: it suggests that the workers are trapped in the cycle for ever).
To spare Lennie from Curley's revenge, which would entail much pain on Lennie's part, George quickly kills Lennie with a Luger pistol, stolen from Carlson. He does this by coaxing Lennie with a description of the dream, and shoots him in the back of the head. Slim and George then go for a drink to settle George's nerves. The last line of the book is Carlson, the ranch worker who kills Candy's old dog in a fashion similar to Lennie's killing (which foreshadows his death) is talking to Curley saying, "Now what the hell do you suppose is eatin' them two guys?" showing that both characters never learned the value of compassion and friendship.

You might like to take a speed reading course. You can actually learn to read faster and remember better what it is you are reading.
If you're doing anything other than reading it, I suggest you stop and read the rest of the book, even if you have to catch up on your sleep during lunch or after school.

Yes. I know what it's about because I read it. If it's important for you to know what it's about, try reading it. If your'e really desperate, try a google search for a synopsis...but you still need to read the book. It's Steinbeck. It's not like it's that difficult to read.
