The Dems and GOP have a lock on all of the special interest groups and corporations who donate to the national parties. The elected officials who win do not represent their constituents who votes for them, but follow the recommendations of their national parties for fear of losing party support, especially financial support at re-election time (think Lieberman being tossed under the bus by the Dems for supporting the Iraq War.)

The elected officials when not following the orders of their party handlers are crafting designer legislation to pay back everyone who donated to the national and state parties. When the will of the party and the corporate sponsors has been met then the politicians will design some feel good legislation to curry the favor of the voters. This feel good legislation usually takes place between July and August of a legislator's re-election year.

This two party system is not a government by, for or of the people. This form of government is designed to have the people elect representatives to go to Washington to represent and obey the will of the national party, not the will of the people.

Considering how you're making such a big deal about reading what you wrote beyond the title, I'm sorely disappointed. There's nothing here that makes your point any better. Even the link is an opinion piece with about as much strength to it as anything you've written here. But hey, I'll respond to each of your points in turn. You call us hypocrites for saying that Republicans are attacking women's rights. Among those rights is a right to get an abortion, yet Republican lawmakers have been doing every thing in their power to make that harder. Among the many things they've done is: forcing ultrasounds on these women, dramatically reducing the number of available clinics within a state, vilifying doctors who perform the practice, putting the decision in the hands of parents who could very easily be abusive, and even putting the onus on rape victims. Republican women don't lose sexual freedoms as a result of Obamacare, no one does, but a lot of people lose much more than that when Planned Parenthood closes down next door. Republicans are the ones passing legislation denying funding to Planned Parenthood on the basis of abortions when they actually fund very few of them. In doing so, they're denying funding to victims of breast cancer, and to people who cannot afford contraception. You also bring up this point of religious institutions breaking "with their conscience." Tell me, should religious institutions have a say in everything medical that their employees want? Let's say they want the MMR vaccine for their kids. That's created with fetal cell lines. Should they be denied coverage because the church they're working for is against it? This line of reasoning is patently absurd, and there's no end to it. You're saying we should allow religious organizations to pick and choose what they cover with their health care, and that's leading us down a dangerous path. But the overall point that you're getting at is that Republican women are not like Democratic women, that they don't care for these rights as much as the Democratic women do. Well, I'm sorry to tell you this, but this is a women's rights issue, and the desire is there to have these rights available on both sides of the aisle. Just because you think that there's a lot of women out there who don't care doesn't mean there aren't plenty who do. You say that paints us as misogynists, but the line of reasoning you use to get there is baffling. We want to give women more rights, allow them access to things that you would deny them. How is it misogynistic to give them an option? Granting easy access to contraception doesn't make them into sex tools. If anything, it makes them more independent and equal, since male access to contraception is already so easy. Denying access, and thereby reducing their reproductive rights, seems the more misogynistic route.

We let all of this two-party nonsense happen right in front of us. They play us off of each other, dividing us on divisive issues like abortion or gay marriage, gun control, high taxes... whatever. Meanwhile the politicians stand against us in favor of themselves and special interests on the majority of issues. In Washington the Republicans vote left center while campaigning as though they were hardcore conservatives. The democrats vote far left in Washington while campaigning as though they were left-center. Agonizing. Americans probably agree on at least 90% of the issues but are divided on the other 10% While the Republicrats aka Democans ignore the American people in favor of themselves 90% of the time. I hate Obama for the EXACT same reasons I hated Bush Jr and Bush Sr. Who will stand for America if not our leaders?

I agree that both suffer from the same illness: the mindless parroting of whatever the leaders of the party says without thinking for themselves.

Politically, they both bow to the almighty corporate America profit margin. Until we get a political party that will refuse to let corporations dictate foreign policy, we will continue to slip and fall farther into decadence.

Pete Townsend put it best: "Meet the new boss...same as the old boss."

I just changed my voter registration from "Democrat" to "Unafilliated", so I'll have to agree. The Reps know how to campaign but can't govern. They're all politics and no policy. The Dems are pretty much a motley group of "everyone else" who can't forge a coherent idea.

Not all. Some Republicans, most Democrats.

I think both have people within their ranks that do suck, but not all of them on either side of the fence. I think that every political faction has those that suck.

If anyone thinks that's not true, they need to stop smoking the crack and sober up.

Theyre not stupid. Theyre very smart. They just lie, cheat, and steal on a regular basis. Thats right, and not just the republicans. I dont trust any professional politician as far as I can throw them, which isnt very far.

Anyone who blindly aligns themselves with a party and agrees with everything that party stands for just because that's what they're "supposed to do" is stupid. If people can't think for themselves, they shouldn't even be allowed to vote.
